From the Principal’s Desk

Kia ora koutou,

Well – the weather gods looked after us in Week 2, but it seems we’re back to wind and rain this week. It was fabulous to have the Taranaki Bulls visit last week. The kids got a real buzz from it, with many getting the chance to hold the Ranfurly Shield. Things are trucking along nicely with our class programmes – busy teachers and busy kids!

Community Consultation

It was great to have around 15 parents make themselves available for our Community Consultation afternoon last Sunday. We’ve started to piece together insights from what was shared and will be looking at this alongside staff and student voice to ensure our Ngaere School community is well reflected in our Strategic Planning.

We’d especially love to hear more from parents with children in Rooms 1, 2, 3, and 4, as feedback from these areas is a little light. If you haven’t yet had the chance to complete the short survey HERE – please take the time. Every voice counts.

Home School Partnership Hui

It was great to see such a positive uptake for our Home School Partnership Hui this week. This provided a valuable opportunity for many in our parent community to connect with their child’s teacher, review goals set earlier in the year, and gain deeper insight into how their child is achieving against the refreshed curriculum.

If you missed the opportunity but would like to connect, please get in touch with your child’s teacher to arrange an alternative time.

Attendance

At this point in the year, 74% of our students are attending school “regularly” – that is, more than 90% of the time. This is a positive shift from 62% at the same time last year.

We’ve now hit the winter months and there are certainly some nasty bugs doing the rounds, so it’s understandable that attendance may drop off. What’s crucial is that parents please communicate any absences using the HERO app, or by contacting the school office or your child’s teacher. This helps us plan accordingly, particularly for students involved in intervention learning programmes.

That’s about all from me this week. Stay warm and please stay connected – get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

SPORTS UNIFORMS

For those students who have finished winter sports (Netball & Basketball) could we please have the uniforms returned to school.  Thank you.

Calling on our amazing community!

This calving season, we’re looking for locals willing to raise a bull calf and donate the proceeds to support Ngaere School.
Even if you don’t have children at the school right now — maybe you’re a past pupil, a proud grandparent, or simply someone who loves backing a good local cause — we’d truly value your support.

Thank you to Sharpes Farm Feeds who have generously sponsored the Calf Pellets for this project

Lego Lunchtimes

The lunchtime Lego Club is up and running and is very popular. At this time we have limited lego available for the students to build with and would like to ask if anyone has any old (or new) lego they would consider donating to the club it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Ngaere School | 2025 Board Elections

Every three years, all public schools in Aotearoa hold elections for their School Boards — and it’s happening again in 2025!

At Ngaere School, our School Board plays a huge role behind the scenes. While their mahi might not always be visible, it’s vital to how our school runs. The Board:

  • Writes and reviews our strategic plan relating to teaching and learning

  • Consults with our community

  • Oversees our finances and property

  • Ensures we give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all aspects of school life

 How the election works:

We’ve appointed Election Pilot as our official Returning Officer, and this year the election will be run online.
Election Pilot has been supporting school elections for over 20 years and is the only Ministry-accredited provider of online election services since 2022.

You’ll receive important info (like nomination forms and voting details) directly by email from Election Pilot.

If we don’t have an email address for you — no worries — they’ll send everything out to you by post so you won’t miss out.

Your details and privacy:

To run the election, we’ve passed on your name and contact info to Election Pilot.
They’ll only use your details to manage the election for Ngaere School, and as required by law, your information will be deleted 60 days after the election.

Questions/Want more info?

If you have any questions about how the election works, get in touch directly with Election Pilot:

Email: election@electionpilot.nz

It is important that members of the community who are considering standing for election do so fully informed of what the work of a school board involves.

Our Kōrari for Aspiring Board Member sessions help community members understand the work of the board, promote school board elections and attract potential candidates from our community.

Designed for those curious about joining a board, they provide an opportunity to ask questions and learn what the role involves.

If you’re keen on exploring a Board Nomination – you are encouraged to attend a free Kōrari for Aspiring Board Members webinar on Tuesday, 22nd of July.
