Kia ora e te whānau,

Wow – what an awesome term it has been!

As we reach the end of Term 3, I’ve found myself reflecting on just how much our tamariki have packed into the last ten weeks. There have been so many moments to celebrate and plenty that have made us incredibly proud of our kids and our little kura.

Our kapa haka represented us beautifully at both the Taranaki Mohoao Kapa Haka Festival and Te Huihuinga o Ngā Tātarakihi in Hāwera. Our Year 5–8 students have challenged themselves through ePro8, we had a fantastic response from whānau to our Home–School Partnership Hui, and we’ve enjoyed some pretty cool opportunities along the way, including a visit from the Taranaki Bulls.

It has also been another fantastic winter of sport. So many of our kids have been out there representing Ngaere across a range of sporting codes, achieving some outstanding results but, just as importantly, getting involved and giving things a go. Our Year 7–8 students had a brilliant Winter Sports Tournament, while our cross-country runners have progressed from Rawhitiroa to Centrals and, for some, on to the Taranaki Cross Country this week.

And these really are just a few of the highlights. Behind all of this, there has been plenty of great learning happening every day in our classrooms. It is easy to focus on the big events, but it is often the smaller moments – seeing kids make progress, grow in confidence, support each other and experience success – that make us most proud.

A massive mihi and thank you to our staff, whānau and wider community who continue to get in behind our kids and make these opportunities possible. We really are fortunate to have such a supportive community around our kura.

There is plenty more to look forward to! Term 4 is shaping up to be action-packed, with outdoor pursuits, Education Outside the Classroom, our Kiwiana Arts Festival and plenty of other awesome experiences as we head into the summer months.

For now, though, I hope everyone gets the chance to slow down, enjoy some whānau time and recharge the batteries. Our tamariki have certainly earned it!

IMPORTANT PET DAY INFORMATION

With pet day just around the corner, the following is important information about the day:

Students who have entered a pet – and have been at school – will have been given a “Pet Diary” to complete over the holidays. This is a great way to record all the details about your pet and is a great keepsake. The diaries will need to be returned to school by 3pm Tuesday 13th October to be included for judging.
BAKE STALL: We would like to ask if each family could please donate an item of baking for the bake sale (cakes/bicuits/fudge/muffins/etc). A plate will come home with your child/ren on the first day of term 4 (Monday 12th October) for each family to send baking back to school on. You can use the plate provided or supply your own, but please do not send a plate/container that you would like returned as the baking items will be sold. Any contribution is very much appreciated. Thank you. Could we please have all bake sale items at school on the Tuesday afternoon before Pet Day or the morning of Pet Day – Wednesday 14th October.
RAFFLE DONATIONS: we would like to ask if each family could please donate a scratchie for the scratchie raffle or/and a bottle for the “Mystery Bottle Raffle”. Please drop at the school office.

ORDER OF EVENTS

Please arrived at least 15 minutes before your event time to register yourself and your pet and be ready for the judges:

9.15am PETS Dogs are to go to the garden area at the back of the hall All other pets to gather on the court area

10.00am LAMBS To assemble on the field

10.30am CALVES To assemble on the field

1.00pm Juding wraps up, raffles drawn and special awards given out

Parking is available around the school or on the school field (entrance off Cheal Road) which is the best for utes and trailers.

OTHER INFORMATION

There will be BBQ Food for sale, a coffee cart on site, games, stalls, raffles, etc
CASH ONLY – there is no eftpos, so please bring cash with you.
The first two days of Term 4 are traditionally used for children to work on craft exhibits for Pet Day. Craft requirements are as below – please make sure that you child/ren bring their craft items to school with them on the first day of Term 4 – Monday 12th October
